Northern Italy Rattled by Tremor March 7, 2008

An earthquake centered in north-central Italy on Saturday morning was felt in the cities of Florence and Bologna, according to local reports.

No injuries to people or damage to buildings were immediately reported in the 4.7 magnitude quake, which struck at 8:43 a.m. local time.

The ANSA news agency reports that the epicenter was determined to have been in the Mugello region north of Florence, near the central Appenine mountain range.

The depth of the seismic event was placed at 6 miles (10 km).
