Spiraling clockwise bands from Cyclone 24P can be seen passing over New Caledonia.
Tropical Cyclone 24P attained only minimal tropical storm strength just before striking northern New Caledonia, but still triggered flooding deep enough to kill two people on the French South Pacific territory.
The victims included a Belgian biologist who was working for the local branch of international environment organization Conservation International.
His body was found downstream in the river he was last seen attempting to cross on March 21.
The other fatality was a motorist who died in a road accident associated with the adverse weather conditions.
The storm later lost force over the Coral Sea to the west of New Caledonia.
