Peru Shaken By Magnitude 5.5 Quake April 4, 2008
Map of Peru
A sharp earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 jolted a wide area of Peru on Saturday morning from an epicenter just west of the capital, Lima.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake occurred at 7:51 a.m. local time only 10 miles (15 km) west of downtown Lima.

The shaking awakened late-sleepers from their beds and was felt as far away as the Andean city of Cuzco, 355 miles (570 km) southeast of the capital.

No significant damage or injuries were reported.
