Typhoon Neoguri can clearly be seen making landfall along the coast of southern China.
Three people were confirmed dead in southern China's Guangdong province from mud flows and strong winds brought by Typhoon Neoguri.
The first named storm so far this year in the northwestern Pacific basin skirted the island province of Hainan as a Category-2 storm, then weakened below hurricane force before making landfall about 150 miles (240 km) southwest of Hong Kong.
The Xinhua news agency reports that the former typhoon killed two people in Shenzhen when a mudslide cascaded onto a roadway under construction.
It says another victim was struck and killed by an aluminum sheet that blew off a stadium roof during high winds.
Radar images from the Hong Kong Observatory clearly show the center of the weakening storm passing to the northwest of the city.
