The disorganized cloud features of tropical storms Durga and Rosie can be seen swirling southeastward over the Indian Ocean.
Two separate areas of disturbed weather to the south of Indonesia's Java and Sumatra islands formed into tropical storms Durga and Rosie within a two-day period.
Rosie developed south of the Sunda Strait, bringing locally heavy rainfall to Australia's remote Christmas Island. It later lost force as it moved southward across easternmost stretches of the Indian Ocean.
Tropical Storm Durga strengthened a few hundred miles to the west near the Cocos Islands. Durga also dissipated while moving southward over the Indian Ocean.
