The earthquake relief headquarters of Hanzhong City said the tremor hit Ningqiang County at 1:51 p.m local time and caused several buildings to collapse, resulting in the latest fatalities.
The death toll from the initial jolt has reached 69,172 with another 17,420 still missing, according to the official Xinhua news agency.
Xinhua also reports that more than 80 percent of the country’s giant panda habitat was damaged or destroyed by the May temblor.
The violent quake unleashed landslides that cut off access to large stretches of mountainous areas, including China's largest panda breeding center in Wolong, Sichuan.
