Hurricane Hernan Churns Eastern Pacific August 15, 2008
Hurricane Hernan can be seen weakening as it moved westward between Mexico and Hawaii.
Hurricane Hernan formed off Mexico’s Pacific coast, then traveled westward toward Hawaii, far from any land areas.

The storm briefly attained Category 3 strength during its nearly week-long journey.

Only shipping lanes were threatened by the eighth named storm of the eastern Pacific hurricane season.

• Tropical Storm Kika formed to the southeast of Hawaii, then lost force as it approached the International Dateline to the west.
