Cyclone Gael's Outer Bands Brush Indian Ocean Islands February 13, 2009
Cyclone Gael's impressive circulation can be seen spinning in the Southern Hemisphere's typical clockwise direction for such storms.
Cyclone Gael churned the western Indian Ocean for the second consecutive week, reaching Category 4 force while passing between Reunion and Madagascar.

While locally heavy rain and gusty winds buffeted both islands, as well as nearby Mauritius, the strongest winds near Gael’s center remained well offshore.

The cyclone had been taking aim on Madagascar during the previous week. But a shift in movement to the south just prior to a feared landfall spared the cyclone-weary island further misery.
