Quake Map of Panama
A relatively strong earthquake caused a brief panic across much of Panama early Saturday, sending residents of the capital and port of Colon rushing into the streets.

Panama’s National Civil Defense System said the shaking caused cracks to appear in two high-rise apartments in the capital.

Eddie Arauz, who lives on the 23rd floor of a Panama City apartment building, told the Associated Press that “it felt very strong, and I got out of the building quickly.”

There were no reports of any injuries due to the quake.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the 6.0 magnitude quake occurred at 1:49 a.m. local time beneath the Caribbean Sea at an epicenter 60 miles northeast of Panama City.

The quake was at a depth of about 27 miles, according to the agency.
