Baboons on South Africa's Cape Peninsula, scoping out their next unlocked car to heist.
Tourists visiting the South African coast near Cape Town are being warned of a troop of baboons that can tell if visitors have left their vehicles unlocked or not.

The South African Press Association reports the troublesome primates have learned to listen for the telltale “tweet tweet” triggered when the doors are locked by remote control.

They immediately target those left unlocked once the owners are out of sight.

Among the items reported to have been plundered by the simian snatchers are cameras, food and other valuables.

Baboons have become more of a problem to humans as their habitat has been invaded by development around the Cape Peninsula.

In early July, a 14-year-old baboon named William by local residents was euthanized by lethal injection after he was caught repeatedly breaking into homes and terrorizing people.
