Yet another winter cold front can be seen sweeping across southern Chile and Argentina on Thursday.
Many parts of South America remain in a bitter Antarctic chill that has caused misery and even death in the normally temperate region.
Temperatures in the Peruvian capital of Lima have recently been the coldest in 40 years, due in part to cooler-than-normal coastal waters linked to the returning La Niña ocean phenomenon.
Health experts say the chill is responsible for the deaths of more than 250 young children across Peru, who suffered from cold-related respiratory diseases like pneumonia.
Unusually cold weather also has reached as far north as the Amazon rain forest.
