Poorly organized Typhoon Meranti can be seen passing the southwest coast of Taiwan toward mainland China.
High winds from Typhoon Meranti killed three people in China’s Fujian province as the Category 1 storm wrecked their coastal homes.
China's meteorological agency said that Meranti made landfall at Shishi City at 3:30 a.m. on September 10, with a wind speed of 78 mph at its center.
The Xinhua news agency reports a total of 145,300 people in Fujian were evacuated to avoid rain and wind triggered accidents.
The storm quickly weakened to a tropical storm, but still brought flooding rains to neighboring Zhejiang province and metropolitan Shanghai.
