Pacific Hurricane Season Finally Stirs June 10, 2011
Adrian attaining hurricane force late Wednesday.
The first named storm of the 2011 eastern Pacific hurricane season spun up off the coast of Acapulco early in the week.

Tropical Storm Adrian quickly attained hurricane force, but was predicted to remain well off the Mexican coast as a threat mainly to shipping lanes.

Adrian formed more than three weeks after the official May 15 start of the Pacific hurricane season.

It was predicted to reach Category 3 force by the weekend, according to meteorologists at the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami.
