Satellite Image
Calvin can be seen reaching hurricane force over the weekend to the southwest of the popular Mexican resort of Puerto Vallarta.
The eastern Pacific's third named storm of the 2011 hurricane season formed from an area of disturbed weather off Mexico's west coast.

Hurricane Calvin briefly attained Category 1 force before gradually weakening over the cooler waters of the Pacific to the northwest.

The storm was a threat only to maritime traffic in the region during its brief lifespan.
