Late-season Hurricane Kenneth underwent explosive intensification over the warm Pacific waters off Acapulco late Monday and early Tuesday.
The storm attained Category 4 force just over 24 hours after becoming a hurricane, packing maximum sustained winds of approximately 145 mph.
It later lost strength over cooler waters midway between Mexico and Hawaii.
Kenneth was expected to be a threat to only shipping lanes during its lifespan.
