CIMSS Satellite Loop
The poorly defined circulation of Tropical Storm Chanda can be seen spreading over southwestern Madagascar.
Severe Tropical Storm Chanda roared into Madagascar’s western coast on Sunday, packing maximum sustained winds of about 40 mph.

The storm brought more than 11 inches of rainfall within a 48-hour period as it made landfall between the coastal communities of Morombe and Toliara.

It was quickly downgraded to a tropical depression while passing over the southern tip of the island.

But meteorologists said they were monitoring remnants of the tropical cyclone should it show signs of regeneration after moving over the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.
