Officials said 16 homes sustained damage around the city of Ica, which was badly damaged by a magnitude 8 quake in August 2007.
The U.S. Geological Survey said Monday's late-night quake struck at 11 minutes past midnight nine miles southeast of Ica.
The shaking briefly knocked out power to the region.
