Cyclone Lua can be seen gaining force off Australia's Pilbara coast early in the week.
Approaching Cyclone Lua forced the closure of several key oil facilities off the coast of northwestern Australia, suspending more than a quarter of the country's crude production.
The storm slowly intensified over several days, attaining Category 2 force before making landfall along the remote Pilbara coast.
The Australian Bureau of Meteorology warned that Lua could bring destructive winds and heavy rainfall into the weekend.
Maximum sustained winds near the center of the storm were predicted to be near 105 mph when it made landfall near Hedland late Friday.
