Typhoon Sanvu Churns Western Pacific June 1, 2012
CIMSS Satellite Loop
Typhoon Sanvu can be seen swirling over the open Pacific between Guam and Japan's southernmost islands.
Typhoon Sanvu briefly threatened Iwo Jima with high winds, but its center passed well to the southeast of the Japanese island.

The storm had formed during the previous week near Guam, then was a significant menace to only shipping lanes in the western Pacifc.
