Java Quake Damages Hundreds of Homes Around Jakarta June 8, 2012

A sharp temblor off the southern coast of Java on Monday damaged dozens of structures and injured at least two people.

Residents in two-story homes also reported that their buildings were soundly shaken.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter was just over 100 miles south-southwest of Jakarta at a depth of 42 miles beneath the floor of the Indian Ocean.

The quake struck at 6:18 p.m. local time in a region where earthquakes are not uncommon.
