The 3.8 magnitude jolt was felt on the upper floors of tall buildings in the Black Sea resort.
Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry said it launched a thorough inspection of Olympics facilities in the area shortly after the tremor struck at about 8:00 a.m. local time.
But there were no reports of damage there or anywhere else along the coast.
The epicenter was placed just to the southwest of Sochi beneath the bed of the Black Sea.
A suspected underwater volcano was reported during the previous week to have melted a fiber-optic cable running through the same coastal area, affecting communications between the Russian city and the neighboring country of Georgia.
There was no immediate word if the two geologic events were related.
