Poorly organized Tropical Storm Garry can be seen swirling just north of American Samoa on Tuesday.
Samoa and American Samoa were buffeted by passing Tropical Storm Garry.
There were no reports of significant damage or injuries from the strengthening storm. But the area received catastrophic damage and a number of fatalities from Cyclone Evan just a month earlier.
The storm formed near the Pacific territory of Wallis and Futuna, and was expected to reach hurricane force while approaching the Cook Islands late in the week.
Officials in the South Pacific island nation were warning residents to prepare for what would be their first cyclone of the season.
