Cyclone Jack Halts Malaysian Air Search April 25, 2014

Cyclone Jack can be seen weakening over the Indian Ocean on Tuesday, far from land.
Tropical Cyclone Jack formed briefly over the open waters of the eastern Indian Ocean.

The storm was initially a threat only to shipping lanes in the region, but its remnants later forced a temporary halt to the aerial search for missing Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370.

“It has been determined that the current weather conditions are resulting in heavy seas and poor visibility, and would make any air search activities ineffective and potentially hazardous,” Australia’s Joint Agency Coordination Center said in a statement.

Aerial surveillance flights resumed the following day.
