Karina and Lowell Form in the Eastern Pacific August 22, 2014
CIMSS Satellite Loop
Hurricane Karina and Tropical Storm Lowell can be seen spinning over the open waters of the eastern Pacific.
Tropical Storm Lowell churned the open Pacific well off the coast of Baja California after Karina briefly attained hurricane force in the same area.

Karina wandered westward toward Hawaii, then eventually lost force over cooler Pacific waters.

Both storms were threats to only shipping lanes.
