Typhoon Noul Swamps Yap, Threatens Philippines May 8, 2015
CIMSS Satellite Loop
Typhoon Noul can be seen strengthening Thursday as it churned the Pacific on a path toward the Philippines.
The Micronesian island of Yap received gales and rain squalls for several hours from developing Typhoon Noul.

The 10th tropical cyclone of the year in the region arrived only a month after Super Typhoon Maysak passed through islands in Yap State, leaving widespread destruction.

Noul brought more than a foot of rainfall to the islands before moving on toward the northern Philippines and steadily gained strength.

Forecasters predicted that the storm would reach Category-4 force as it approached Luzon Island late in the week.

Noul would become the fourth typhoon to strike the Philippines this year. An average of 20 storms cross the archipelago each year.
